Mac's Journey

On a lonely iceberg in the Southern Hemisphere off the coast of Antarctica sat a lonely penguin named Mac. This young penguin was the toast of his flock. Everyone loved him. He was smart, witty, and not too hard on the peepers either, but still he wasn't happy. Mac dreamed of a life outside of Antarctica. He had heard of penguins that lived in South America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Warm places. He hated constantly freezing his tail off. His flippers were always numb. There was something wrong with this because most penguins in Antarctica don't get cold, but Mac did. He had a hat and sweater that they stole from one of the people that were on expedition there because of his condition. Mac needed to get out of Antarctica. He had to get to one of those warm places. So he put a plan into place. He decided to hitch a ride on a whale that would hopefully take him to one of these places. It was a gamble because he didn't know the migration patterns of whales, but he had to try. He waited on the iceberg until one came up out of the water and jumped onto it's back. Hopefully this whale doesn't eat me, is all Mac could think.

To Be Continued.

  2. i'm not subjecting mac to the terrible life he would have in a zoo. he is a free spirit and a zoo would just rip that spirit from him.

  3. Dear Ben: I find myself troubled by the potential pitfalls Mac might face as he attempts to ride a whale. I fear your plot may become overcomplicated as you try to reconcile the two species and their instinctive predator/prey relationship. Assuming, of course, that the whale of transport is an orca. [Might make a good screenplay for a buddy film, though.] Now if you choose one of your krill-eating whales you lose the visual sleekness of the orca, replacing it with a more disturbing, barnacle-encrusted type of whale. Tough call. You might lose some of the really little kids. I do wish Mac all the luck in the world, though. I hope he finds what he needs.

  4. i think mac would be better off going to a zoo, where he won't get hurt, eaten or become hungry.

  5. as a fictional work the whale, whether it be a killer whale or not, will be a nice whale that doesn't want to feed on mac. mac will win him over with his awesome ukulele chops and who could eat something that can play a ukulele?
